The AIA Washington Council recommends that as transportation expenditures are considered, the Legislature enact mechanisms to require that all transportation projects incorporate designs that reinforce the aesthetic character and quality of local communities, specifically projects utilizing state funds such as bridges, railings, sound barriers, retaining walls, buildings, and similar elements of transportation systems and facilities include quality of design as part of the evaluation system for contracts to be awarded by state and local jurisdictions, to ensure a positive impact on our local communities. In addition, an appropriate level of the Legislature's
transportation funding should include expansions of local and regional
pedestrian, bicycle, and mass transit systems as critical components of
the state's transportation network. |
