Sustainability in Health Care Design
This meeting will feature a keynote speaker on the topic of sustainable design in healthcare, a tour of a recently complete project, a sustainable design technical speaker and more.

Fall/Winter – October 2009
Salem , OR
Specialty Care
We will tour the replacement Salem Hospital by HKS, and see a presentation of the new Oregon State Hospital (psychiatric hospital) by SRG.

Purpose Statement:

The Architecture for Health Panel (AHP) offers a forum for architects and allied professionals interested in health care design excellence.

By enhancing the ability to provide outstanding service the AHP improves the planning, design, and construction of health care facilities.

The AHP also encourages the integration of regional influences into health care architecture.

The AHP is an affiliate of the National AIA Academy of Architecture for Health and is an adjunct to the AIA Washington Council and AIA Oregon.

Revit in Healthcare Design: Opportunities & Challenges
Presenter:  Ishtmeet Singh, AIA, Giffin Bolte Jurgens                                 
Topic: This presentation will serve as a broad overview for design teams who have recently started using Revit or are considering the move. The focus will be on benefits of Revit adoption and the challenges on the way to implementation. There will be time allocated for questions at the end of the presentation.

Topic: A panel discussion highlighting benefits and challenges of using Revit from the perspective of the project design team. What lessons can be learned from this project? How has it affected project delivery and coordination? How will it benefit the contractor and Owner?

On the Boards: Legacy Children’s Hospital, Portland, Oregon
Presenters: Kip Storey and Karl Sonnenberg, AIA, ZGF Architects   
Topic: This project on the Legacy Emanuel campus includes a new patient tower to house exist-ing pediatric acute care beds, existing pediatric intensive care beds and a new pediatric emergency department. This building will provide single rooms to replace beds currently housed in double rooms. The 7 level / 250,000 square foot tower will house 96 acute care beds, 24 PICU Beds, 45 NICU beds, 22 short stay and also provides a front door to the Legacy Emanuel Children's Hospital. The hospital is currently operating as a hospital within a hospital on the campus.

Topic: This 492,000 SF hospital, research and support services project is an expansion of the Providence Portland Medical Center campus. It includes new research and all clinical space for Providence Cancer Center as well as space for 250 new beds to support cancer research, surgery and other hospital programs. The goal was to create a world-class interactive research facility where scientists and clinicians collaborate in developing new scientific knowledge and treatment programs. Other project components include over 20 new operating rooms, education spaces, new lobby and support services.  Related projects include new parking facility, central plant replacement and the Providence Child Center, (not part of tour).

Costs (PLEASE NOTE NEW POLICY)

2009 AHP Members: No meeting cost for current AHP members except for lunch payment.

Non-Members: Cost is $20 to attend the meeting for attendees who are not current AHP members (payable at the door), plus lunch payment.

Lunch is $10 for all attendees except those who indicate that they do not want a lunch. Vegetarian lunches are available.
