Submission Requirements
Entry/Materials Release Form: Complete and
return the attached form with the project entry.
On One CD:
Project Narrative: Provide a narrative description in MS Word
or PDF format (one to two pages).
Include the project name, program requirements, sustainability goals and
design solutions. Also, describe the
projects objective and design concept along with any unique challenges. Include a description of the civic place with
a site plan in relation to the community.
Include the category for the project:
Individual Buildings, master plans, series of buildings (i.e. school
district and universities), or agency-wide effort. You may include, at the top of the 1st
page, a representative image of the project.
Image Identifier: Provide a one-page list of digital images in
MS Word or PDF format. Include a short
description of each image.
Images for jurors: Provide a maximum of 20 images on the CD. The images should include the project’s
design intent and resolution clearly, concisely, and completely. Each set is to include:

Floor
Plan – include graphic scale and north arrow
·
Site
Plan – include graphic scale and north arrow
·
Sections
and Diagrams (optional)
·
Exterior
Elevations
·
Optional
images which can contain drawings, sketches or photos.
·
Each image
title should be descriptive.
All images should be a maximum of 1024x768 pixel resolution and 100 dots
per inch (DPI) for photos and 200 DPI for drawings, both in jpeg format. The
name of the project should be on the CD label, as well as the assigned project
number.
ALL FIRM AND ARCHITECT IDENTITY SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM THE
PROJECT NARRATIVE PAGE, IMAGE IDENTIFIER, AND IMAGES.
On second CD:
Provide two publicity images on the second CD. Label this CD with project name, project
number, and “Publicity Images”. For
display on the website, one image should be 226 pixels (w) x 340 pixels (h) in
jpeg format and not larger than 72dpi.
The second photo should be a larger, high quality image (300 DPI) for
press release use. The photos should include an imbedded credit
to the photographer when appropriate.
By virtue of submitting an entry, you also grant permission to AIA
Washington Council to announce after the contest the photos and project details
of honorees by distributing the publicity photo and other images submitted, to
be used for news purposes.
Please note that all submitted material will not be returned.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Certificates will be presented to architects and owners of winning
projects at the AIA Washington Council Civic Design Awards Luncheon on Friday, April
25th. Award recipients are
encouraged to invite owners, contractors, and any other project participants to
attend. The luncheon will be held at the
Fairmount Olympic Hotel in
Entries will be judged individually, not in competition with each
other. The jury will evaluate
submissions using a standard jury format evaluating excellence in design for
public projects. The Council shall use
the terms “Honor Award”, “Merit Award”, and “Citation Award”. The Awards jury shall solely determine the
number of awards of each type.
AIA Washington Council reserves the right to disqualify entries or
projects not submitted in accordance with the rules. This includes entries with the architect or
firm name showing and entries that do not use the described CD and image
requirements. AIA Washington Council is
not responsible for errors in submissions.
