Purpose Statement:

The Architecture for Health Panel (AHP) offers a forum for architects and allied professionals interested in health care design excellence.

By enhancing the ability to provide outstanding service the AHP improves the planning, design, and construction of health care facilities.

The AHP also encourages the integration of regional influences into health care architecture.

The AHP is an affiliate of the National AIA Academy of Architecture for Health and is an adjunct to the AIA Washington Council and AIA Oregon.

Architecture for Health Panel & AIA Seattle present:

Medical Design Forum: Politics, Financing, and Patient-Care
February 11 & 12, 2010

To pre-register: Visit www.aiaseattle.org/MedicalDesignForum2010

In the heated debates about the future of healthcare, where does design fit in? Where are healthcare trends, both politically and economically, headed and how will they affect your practice? What changes in market demand, financing and service delivery should we anticipate? Can we improve the patient experience, despite those economic challenges? Join us for this and other topics at the annual AIA Seattle/Architecture for Health Panel Medical Design Forum and Building Tour. The program features a case study/building tour, networking, interactive learning, panel debates & audience Q&A.

AHP Board Openings for Members

As 2009 draws to a close, the Architecture for Health Panel (AHP) is near to losing two board
members whose terms will end in December.  Jon Anderson of Anderson Dabrowski in Portland and Ron Eliason of Hargis Engineers in Seattle will end their service to the board and we thank them for their leadership and participation.  We are looking for two replacements:
  • an architect from Oregon
  • an affiliate member from Seattle (engineer, contractor, consultant, Owner's representative, or similar)
Being a member of the AHP board is a rewarding way to connect with your colleagues and to help shape the AHP's programs.  Our board is dedicated to bringing you local meetings and facility tours that are valuable, current, and focused on healthcare design.

The AHP board consists of five architects (three Washington and two Oregon) and two affiliate members (one from each state).  Board members are sought with knowledge and experience in healthcare design.  Board members are not required to belong to the AIA but ideally would be AHP members and regular past meeting attendees.  The regular term of Board service is five years for architects and two for affiliate members.   Architect members cycle through the leadership (recorder, treasurer, chair-elect, chair, and past chair) during their five year tenure.  AHP meetings are held three or four times a year, not including the AIA Seattle Healthcare Forum.  Responsibilities of board members include planning meetings, running meetings, arranging for venues and speakers, informing members of upcoming AHP and other events and issues, and educational outreach.

If you are interested in serving on the AHP board, please respond to this email expressing your interest and a brief description of your background in healthcare design by October 12.  Please send your recommendations of others if you prefer.

We also welcome your ideas for tour venues, topics, projects for on-the-boards presentations, and speakers as we plan our meetings for 2010.

Thank you for your support and membership in the AHP.

Scott Combs, Clark/Kjos Architects, Chair
Duncan Davidson, Mahlum Architects, Chair Elect
Marguerite Jamieson, Caron Architecture, Treasurer
